Job Title:
Marine Systems Engineer (12-month contract with potential to extend)
Location:
Role will be weighted towards applicants living in Wales however this is not a requirement if applicant is willing to make regular visits to North Wales for team events.
Salary and benefits:
Up to £70,000 per year based on experience. Part-time, flexible, remote working and job share options also considered. Pension available. Generous holiday entitlement – 36 days holiday, including a flexible bank holiday scheme.

Role Overview:
This is an exciting opportunity to join an award-winning, early-stage ClimateTech startup on an initial 12-month contract, with the potential to extend as the business grows to meet customer demand. We are building out our product line and are looking for an experienced marine systems engineer to lead the design, development and deployment of advanced marine communications and IoT systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical sensor systems
Assemble, test and repair advanced sensor instrumentation, data logging systems and wireless/satellite communication systems
Ensuring embedded systems such as sensors and remote communication equipment effectively communicate with each other
Install, operate, and demobilise sensor equipment at sea and in the workshop in line with engineering documentation and safety requirements
Fault-finding, repairs, and maintenance on a range of electrical equipment
Provide SME advice in meetings, and implement simple, non-complex engineering solutions
Key Responsibilities:
You will have a Master’s level or equivalent background (e.g. apprenticeship or other vocational qualifications) in Mathematics, Engineering or Computer Science or complex technology such as IT, telecoms, marine, renewables, space, automotive, rail, etc.
A passion in solving environmental problems with technology
Experience in marine, shipyard, or heavy industrial electrical work
A strong understanding of electrical installation practices and testing procedures
Experience in installing and configuring marine sensors (e.g. cameras, sonar, LiDAR)
Strong proficiency in deployment of high-performance edge computing and/or IoT technology
Experience in product design and testing
Thrives in environments where initiative, autonomy, and curiosity are valued—comfortable taking a project from concept to deployment with minimal oversight.
Ability to travel for team events, occasional fieldwork or conference attendance
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and under time constraints
Self-motivated team player with a proactive approach to learning and collaboration.
Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Time management and innovative thinking skills
Interest in ocean conservation, marine biology and the blue economy
Nice to Have:
Knowledge in one or more of the following areas: Renewable Energy Industry; Offshore Engineering; Engineering Design and Analysis; Industrial Manufacturing;
Thorough knowledge of basic engineering principles in one or more of the following engineering disciplines: Mechanical; Structural; Hydrodynamics; Materials
A time-served electrician with relevant NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification
Experience of engagement with stakeholders and industries
Good knowledge of roles of key industry stakeholder
Prior experience in a startup or high-growth tech environment
